Canadian born Nina Brown explored her start in fashion at a very early age. By kindergarten, she noticed how her older siblings expressed themselves through what they wore and how they wore it. Coming from very modest beginnings in the 1970’s actually became an asset for Nina, as it gave her the opportunity to use her resourcefulness and creativity to develop her personal style rather than relying on big labels.
Throughout her teen and young adult years Nina had the good fortune to travel around some amazing countries and meet people from all walks of life, soaking in their cultures and customs. After graduating with a degree in Office Administration she quickly decided she needed to explore her artistic side. A fellow peer and local designer suggested she take a sewing course and upon completion she decided to enroll at a private French Design College , L’Institut Superior de Design de la Mode.
After completing her degree in Fashion in Montreal, Canada in 2002 she started her ready-to-Wear label, Brownskin Design. Nina housed her collections at three independent Montreal Boutiques until 2007 when she relocated to Sacramento, California where she resides with her husband and three children.
Nina quickly absorbed all that Northern California has to offer with its beautiful scenic cities, diverse cultures and love of the arts. Sacramento has given her back the sense of community and love for supporting local designers and artisans that she missed from Canada. Creating unique stylish quality garments for women to enjoy is and will always be her mission and passion.
